Tripping Traffic Lights

LancasterOnline.com recently ran an article about scooters, motorcycles and traffic lights on sensors. The issue is that smaller vehicles, like scooters, don't have enough mass of ferrous metal to trip the electronic induction loops embedded in the pavement. Rather than re-hash the issue, I'll just refer you to the original article.

Great link to an informative article. Thanks for posting it.

I've found nothing works for those in pavement detection systems except:

1. Just go through the redlight.
2. Put the scooter on the center stand and walk over to the pedestrian button if available.
3. Wait for what seems like forever.

I did recently learn a trick for the intersection with sensors up on the light itself. Flick your high beams once and the light will change right away. I was told this is a feature for emergency vehicles. I have tried it at two lights here and it works every time at night bout with only one of them during the day.

Maybe my scooter headlight is too whimpy...
